IEEE Robotics and Automation SocietyRAS Fall Meeting Series Report Sendai, October 2, 2004 ….(from the new RAS Bylaws)…. On or before April 1 of each year, the President shall appoint, with the approval of the Administrative Committee (AdCom), a Nominations Committee which shall consist of five Society members, its Chair being the Junior Past President and at least one other member being an AdCom member. General rules By May 31 each year a Call For Nominations shall be distributed to AdCom members, published on the Magazine and also posted at the RAS website. The Call has been also disseminated to ALL RAS members through the RAS e-newsletter. Nominations shall be submitted to the Nomination Chair. Nominators (or self nominations) should indicate the position the nominee is seeking and the nominee’s agreement to serve if elected. Internal deadline: August 15, Nominations Committee

IEEE Robotics and Automation SocietyRAS Fall Meeting Series Report Sendai, October 2, 2004 New AdCom members to be elected in 2004 “…(from the RAS Standing Rules)..By May 31 each year, the Secretary, with the concurrence of the AdCom, shall define the number of AdCom members to be elected from each RAS Geographical Area with respect to the vacancies and to the residual composition of the incumbent AdCom…..” AdCom vacancies for 2004 elections are six: ONE for Americas, ONE for EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), and TWO for Asia and Pacific, plus TWO members to be elected at large. Specific rules for the Nominations and Elections of the President-Elect and the Vice-Presidents-Elect …Vice-Presidents-Elect will be elected by secret ballot. One VP position will be elected at a time. Each candidate will be allowed to make a short oral presentation before voting. In case the candidate is absent for some acceptable reason, such as illness, a colleague can make the presentation on his/her behalf. Nominations can be made from the floor, but it is discouraged. If last minute nominations are contemplated, nominators are advised to inform the Nominations Chair in advance. The voting members present will cast secret ballots, and a designated two- member Tally Committee will count the ballots. Nominations Committee

IEEE Robotics and Automation SocietyRAS Fall Meeting Series Report Sendai, October 2, 2004 August 15: 4 petitions (Kumar, Stramigioli, Kosuge, Hashimoto) submitted plus 7 nominations or self- nominations (1 declined) The Nomination Committee solicited 2 additional candidates from Americas; 8 from EMEA; 6 from Asia and Pacific 5 candidates out of 7 were selected for Americas, 4 out of 9 for EMEA and 3 out of 7 for Asia and Pacific. Selection was based mainly on qualification and geographical distribution Eligibility has been checked by RAS Secretary and by IEEE AdCom members nominations process

Solicitation was based mainly on qualification and geographical distribution The Committee decided to select a maximum of 3 candidates for each VP-elect office The Committee voted electronically and the 3 most voted candidates were nominated, provided that they reached a majority (3 votes) VPs-elect nominations process
