Why did the Allies win WWII? Lesson 3: Allied Strategies

Strategies used by the Allies – Strategic bombing was particularly effective against Japan, where it was used to destroy Japanese industry and kill or force out its civilian workforce Firebombing Tokyo killed between 80,000 and 130,000 people Nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed about 200,000 people – The US and Britain attacked Normandy in Northern France to begin taking Western Europe from the Germans German troops were tied down fighting in Italy and against the Soviets The Allies used misdirection to further spread out the German lines in France

Guiding Question: How did Allied strategies lead to the defeat of the Axis? You will now do research to answer the guiding question – Look for secondary sources on jstor.org and scholar.google.com – Look for primary sources at the websites below.
