DISCUSSION PREAMBLE Video  Students name three basic kinds of power that a government exercises, discuss the difference between a government and a state, and list the main purposes of the American system of government.

PREVIEW  Each government in the world is unique, yet all of them can be classified into various types. Perhaps the most meaningful classification is based on the number of persons who are allowed to participate in the governing process. GUIDED PRACTICE Governments Around the World  Divide in to groups of 3  Choose a world region to research  Find out about the geographic distribution of the types of government  Select 6 Countries from your region  Research the form of government that country has and find out how stable/popular that government is  Look at the relationships between the different branches of government  After were done, we’ll map it with a key indicating the form of government
