WINTER OLYMPICS GOLD MEDALS FOR AMERICA By : Luz Gonzalez & Gaby Carrera

DATA YearGold Medals Source: We were interested in this data because the winter Olympics just passed and we wanted to know more about it.

LINEAR MODEL

EQUATION Our equation y=0.25x-500 Excel equation y=0.1625x R2= Our work 5-4= =4 Slope = ¼ Y-4=1/4 (x-1984) Y-4=1/4x – y= ¼ x-500

ANALYSIS & PREDICTION Prediction : In 2026 the U.S would get 6 ½ gold medals. This prediction is not reliable because you can’t get half a gold medal and our R2 was not close to 1. Our y intercept is y=-500. It would not be reliable because you cannot win a negative amount of gold medals. The lowest the range could be is 0 and the highest would be then number of games they compete. Our x intercept is x=2,000. It is realistic because it is a possible year, but it does not go with our data because their were no winter Olympics that year. The lowest the domain could be is 1924 and the highest is when they stop the winter Olympics, but every 4 years.
