Resource Depletion Nearly 9/10 of all Australians live in urban areas. This degree of urbanisation has an impact on the physical environment. Urban areas are heavy users of resources from both inside and outside Australia. © Karen Devine 2010

Resource Depletion Urban dwellers draw heavily on: a) Energy: electricity, oil and gas. b) Land: increasing consumption due to urban sprawl. c) Water: stored in reservoirs and used for cooking, cleaning and drinking. d) Food: sourced outside urban areas and occasionally from great distances. © Karen Devine 2010
