The brief had to start in February 2001 must finish in July 2002 to cover printed collections and archives cross-sectoral project no funds allocated to partners for creation of CLDs

A practical solution One template combining UKOLN template and Archives Hub requirements one single web interface for searching a data entry web form enabling direct contribution by partners 500 CLDs will be accessible

A two-stage project Stage 1: Feb-Dec 2001: setting up Stage 2: Jan - July 2002: enhancement and completion

Online Data Entry Form asphttp://snellpc.bham.ac.uk/revelation/rpadminlogin. asp Currently being tested by partners Previously, CLDs sent electronically as Word document New web form allows direct input of description by partner Project Officer still to check and edit in order to maintain quality control

Web Interface To be accessed from a link on Revelation web pages: apping/mapping.htm

Web Interface – 2 Allows both free-text searching and searching across a number of fields Contains index of terms to browse through and then search for Database has facility to display records in XML Each Collection Level Description contains link to Parent record User panel of academics being set up Database to be developed ‘cosmetically’

A multi-purpose tool? We hope it will be compatible with Archives hub plans being made to test this in near future

Questions raised Do we need further national/international standards for CLDs? Do we need one single web access for mapping tools, or is subject approach better? what about an exit strategy?
