The Near East Council of Churches Committee for Refugees Work DSPR – Jordan actalliance Syrian Refugees Relief Project SYR 131 January Report, 2014 Project Achievements

Introduction This report covered the programs and activities which took place last January. The activities were intensive and witnessed high involvement of women committees of both Syrians and Jordanians who effectively participated in all the activities in addition to the increase of number of NGO’s who cooperate with DSPR in implementing all activities especially that Jordan witnessed very cold winter which motivated DSPR to increase its activities to support Syrian refugees in different governorates, north, middle and south of Jordan. The activities also witnessed networking with different local churches.

South Governorates Survey In order to stand on the real situation of the Syrian refugees, DSPR conducted field visit to four governorates in south of Jordan which enabled DSPR to identify the real situation of the Syrian refugees especially that this is the first time that DSPR Jordan works in the south. DSPR Jordan has networked with a number of associations, social development departments, and governorates which facilitated DSPR work to collect the needed data to issue the final report about the situation in the south. Syrian Jordanian Committees DSPR Jordan managed to formulate (8) women committees of both Syrians and Jordanians (5 women from each nationality). (8) workshops were conducted to train these women on Code of Conduct, Objectives of the project, and the role of volunteers in the relief work. Due to time factor, and the need to consult families of the volunteers, DSPR could not formulate two committees in Tafilah and Ma’an so far. Syrian Jordanian Committees

TOT Course With participation of (84) participants from the Syrian Jordanian committees, DSPR Jordan conducted the TOT training course at Theodor Schneller School as of 13-16/1/2014. The was an intense preparation for this workshop to deal with such big number of participants. The workshop focused on training skills for the first 2 days and the components of ACT/JSL SYR131. The workshop adopted participatory approaches, interaction sessions, individual and groups exercises, and implementation. The workshop managed to empower participants to identify the project components, exchange experiences. The workshop included before, during and after tests, group work to build work frames for the project components like psychosocial and life skills …etc. An Australian Parliament (Melissa Parke) attend the workshop during her visit to Jordan

Project Achievements Strategic Planning Retreat & HAP DSPR Jordan conducted its second strategic planning retreat in Aqaba city as of 29-31/1/2014. DSPR area committee and staff participated in this retreat. It focused on presenting HAP concept, its philosophy, principles, requirements through presenting and discussing these issues, followed by individuals and groups exercises. The participants focused on the following benchmarks: 1- Handling Complaints 2- Staff Competency 3- Learning and Continual Improvements The retreat came our with group of recommendations about HAP such as formulating a committee to develop complaints response mechanisms, contiguous follow up for this project until DSPR become HAP certified

Project Achievements Distributing Relief Parcels DSPR Jordan distributed (900) food and non food items for (300) Syrian families in Aqaba city on 29/1/ Food Parcels 300 Dignity Parcels 150 Infants Clothes Parcels 150 Winter Blankets Parcels The distribution took place at The Greek Orthodox Church in Aqaba with support of the local Syrian – Jordanian Voluntary Committee that was formulated and trained.
