Healing Ministry pastoral care, holistic, congregation based care

The Churches Healing Ministry and the Health Services Develop respect and understanding of God’s different ways of healing, leading to cooperation. We ask the WCC to encourage local churches: –to take initiatives to enter into dialogue with the local health services. –to establish and strengthen chaplaincy programs within the health services. –to promote a new awareness of healing ministry within different traditions through specific conferences, seminars at a local, national and international level.

Ministers and Members Training in the Healing Ministry Call upon the Mission and Ecumenical Formation Team to: –map the already existing training programs. –encourage institutions of theological training to include the healing ministry in their curricula. –create resource materials on faith, health and healing.

Churches Becoming Agents of Healing for Families and Communities Relaunch the Family Life Education Program as part of the churches healing ministry. Encourage churches to engage in exploring ways to minister to families within and outside the church. Enable local congregations to be agents of healing through ecumenical cooperation and sharing of resources. Integrate healing liturgies in church life.

Mental Health We ask the WCC: to initiate an education program that will help churches understand the causes and nature of mental illness. –Mental illness is neither a sin nor demon possession. to help the congregations to become aware of their crucial role in promoting mental health. to make available resources dealing with the topics of exorcism and possession.

Churches Ministry of Healing in Relation to Persons with Disabilites We ask the WCC to make a survey of the implementation of the proposals listed in the WCC document A Church of All and for All. We ask the WCC to encourage the inclusion of disability studies in all theological institutions.

Healing and Evangelism We ask the Mission and Evangelism Program to continue to: –enhance role of the ministry of healing within its work of evangelism. –develop its dialogue with Charismatic and Pentecostal churches regarding healing and evangelism.
