WINTER GUIDE

DID YOU KNOW? We have 60% more broken bone injuries in January alone The number of major injuries suffered by our workforce peaks every winter period

We’ve had a five-year average of over 450 injuries in the months of January and February - around 300 more accidents than in the summer months

30% of all winter rail accidents are the result of a slip, trip or fall Most accidents involve a back injury, followed by hands / fingers 11am is the time when most injuries happen

FIVE TOP TIPS FOR STAYING SAFE THIS WINTER

Think about the conditions you’ll be working in and how best to stay safe conditions you’ll be working in and how best to stay safe 1. PLAN AHEAD

Extreme cold can accelerate the effects of tiredness and fatigue 2. TAKE REGULAR BREAKS

3. THINK BEFORE YOU WALK Dark nights and winter conditions make trip hazards harder to see

4. ALWAYS REPORT CLOSE CALLS

4. KIT YOURSELF OUT Make sure you have the right clothing and equipment for winter’s hazards

Give yourself extra time - it could make all the difference and save you a lot of aggravation It's all too easy to get injured - it's not as simple as saying 'don't fall over'. But, by being aware, planning for conditions and taking some practical steps, we can all avoid injury.

Have a fun and relaxing festive period, but please do so with safety in mind and remember our zero tolerance approach to Drugs and Alcohol. For more information please visit:
