IT’S NOT EASY BEING NEW Chamberlain School District New Teacher Mentoring Program Systems Change Conf., Oct. 15, 2015

THINK ABOUT… …everything you do to get ready for the school year…

Gallery Walk Brainstorm ideas for each chart with your small group then move to the next chart, clockwise. Read the listed items and add additional items. Continue until you come back to your original chart.

That is why the Chamberlain School District formalized the NEW TEACHER MENTORING PROGRAM

Process in Review 1.School district leadership team gave the go-ahead. (Teachers, Administrators, ESA Consultant, Program Directors=Total of 10)

2.Dr. Diane Olson was the leader in designing the program. 3.Administrators chose experienced staff members to become mentors as new staff members were hired.

4.Pre-service --Meeting w/ new teachers and mentors --Chart of Dates --Back to School Check List

5.Once a month— “Tip Sheet” sent out to mentors.

5.Mentors meet with new teachers throughout the month using the “Tip Sheet”, answering questions, going over procedures, etc.

6.Once a month meeting with new teachers. Mentors only attend pre-service meeting and celebration meeting. --new teacher “mental health” check --teacher program presentation --program director Q & A --Charlotte Danielson Framework --D. Olson or D. Johnson

7.Final Celebration Meeting (new teachers, mentors, administrators, ESA consultant) Thank you for your support of the CSD’s new teachers during the school year. You are invited to our final new teacher meeting on April 8 at 3:45 p.m. in the CHS V-Tel Rm. The purpose of the event is to celebrate their contributions to the district this year. Refreshments will be served.
