To understand what the word ‘persecution’ means.  How did it feel to not be part of the rest of the class, because of something about you?  How did it feel to be made to feel different?  How did it feel to be in the group that was not ‘different’?  Which group would you prefer to be in?

 Think, discuss & brainstorm…  What kinds of things did you want your slave to do?  How would it feel to have a slave, who would do whatever you wanted?

Did you consider whether the slave would want to do what you were telling them to do? Did you think about their feelings? Were you asking the slave to do things that you didn’t want to do? Did you feel it was okay to ask them to do things you didn’t like doing, because they were different to you (they were your slave)? Without realising it, it is very easy to change from somebody who thinks that persecution is a bad thing, to somebody who lets it happen or causes it, because you are getting something good or getting something that you think you deserve.
