Presentation transcript:

To understand what the word ‘persecution’ means.  How did it feel to not be part of the rest of the class, because of something about you?  How did it feel to be made to feel different?  How did it feel to be in the group that was not ‘different’?  Which group would you prefer to be in?

What do you think the word…persecution …means? What do you think the word…persecuted …means? Copy & complete these sentences in your books. We think that ‘persecution’ means… Also, we think that ‘persecuted’ means… Do you think that persecution is a positive or negative thing? Why?

 Think, discuss & brainstorm…  What kinds of things did you want your slave to do?  How would it feel to have a slave, who would do whatever you wanted?

Did you consider whether the slave would want to do what you were telling them to do? Did you think about their feelings? Were you asking the slave to do things that you didn’t want to do? Did you feel it was okay to ask them to do things you didn’t like doing, because they were different to you (they were your slave)? Without realising it, it is very easy to change from somebody who thinks that persecution is a bad thing, to somebody who lets it happen or causes it, because you are getting something good or getting something that you think you deserve.

From what we have talked about in this lesson, what do you think the verb, ‘to persecute’ means? Copy & complete this sentence in your books: We think that the verb, ‘to persecute’ means…  Remind yourself what we said ‘persecution’ means…  Do you see persecution happening (in a big or a small way) in your everyday lives? E.g. Do you see persecution going on in school? Do you see persecution going on in society? From today’s lesson… What do you now understand about ‘persecution’?

 In today’s lesson we have looked at definitions of words connected with ‘persecution’.  For your homework you need to find a definition (written in your own words, so that you understand & can explain it) for the word: ‘Martyr’
