All Hail The Power Of Jesus’ Name THE GOSPEL IN SONG

Multifaceted Relationship To Jesus  Some see Jesus as merely a friend.  Some see Him as merely a mediator.  Some see Jesus as merely a great teacher.  Far fewer recognize Him as absolute Lord, King and Sovereign.  Do we properly honor Jesus as King?

Do You Ever Take Jesus For Granted?  Become too familiar with Him?  Example: Michelle Obama hugs the queen in Brits went haywire!  Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating did so once in 1992 and earned the nickname Lizard of Oz.

All Hail The Power Of Jesus’ Name  We discussed in an earlier sermon the name of Jesus: character, authority and power.  Now, let’s consider His REIGN both in the universe and also especially in our lives.

Bring forth the royal diadem…  A diadem is a crown  OT has several words for CROWN  NEZER – can be used of a person’s hair, the top of their head, separation from another – such as, “You are my crown and my joy.”

TSAWNIYPH  Zechariah 3:5 – “ Then I said, ‘Let them put a clean turban on his head.’ So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments, while the angel of the Lord was standing by.”  KJV – a fair mitre

ATARAW  Isaiah 62:3 – “ You will also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.”  Psalm 8:5 – “Yet You have made him a little lower than God, and You crown him with glory and majesty.”  Applied to Jesus in Hebrews 2:6-9

NT references to crown  STEPHANOS – a crown of victory  Revelation 2:10 – “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

STEPHANOS for Christ  Revelation 6:2 – “I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.”

DIADEMA  A symbol of rulership  Sometimes of evil  Revelation 12:3 – “Then another sign appeared in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads were seen diadems.”  13:1 : “Then I saw a beast coming out of the sea…and on his horns were 10 diadems.”

And Of Christ…  Revelation 19:12 -- His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.  Sums up Matthew 28:19 – “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth….”

Crowning Jesus As Lord of All  Let angels prostrate fall…  Hebrews 1:6 – “And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, ‘And let all the angels of God worship Him.’”

Ye Ransomed From The Fall…  Luke 24: And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

Every Kindred, Every Tribe…  Romans 14:11 -- For it is written, “A S I LIVE, SAYS THE L ORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO M E, A ND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO G OD.”  Philippians 2:10 – “…so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth.”

When With The Sacred Throng…  We’ll join the everlasting song  Revelation 5:5-10 – “…the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals. And I saw between the throne…and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain…When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb…and they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the book…for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.”

Revelation 5:11-14  Many angels, the living creatures and the elders  Myriads and myriads and thousands of thousands  Crying out “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”  To Him be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.  Four living creatures kept saying, “Amen.”
