Coordinate System

Position Vector n an arrow drawn from the origin to the object you are studying n your coordinate system n *see figure 3-9 in your book

Scalar Quantity n this is a number with no direction n example: 55mph

Vector Quantity n this is a number with a direction n example: 55mph North

Displacement n the distance and direction from your stopping position to your starting position n *this is a vector quantity

Distance n the total amount you traveled n *this is a scalar quantity

Velocity n speed with a given direction n formula: V=d / t n units are m/s n average velocity is different from instantaneous velocity
