The Oral Stage Age= Birth to 18 months Stimulation of the mouth produces pleasure Baby enjoys sucking, chewing , biting

The Oral Stage: Fixation Oral Indulgence in childhood: Overly demanding Dependent Spoiled Oral Restriction in childhood: Sarcastic Tough acting Pessimistic

The Anal Stage Age= 18 - 36 months The toddler experiences conflict over toilet training Imposed Control

The Anal Fixation Anal Retentive- Results from demanding, controlling parenting Need for perfection Exaggerated neatness Compulsive order Anal Expulsive- Results from indulgent parenting Carelessness Messiness Lack of personal responsibility

The Phallic Stage Age 3-6 years The Oedipal Conflict Desire for opposite gender parent

Genital Stage Resolution Boys unconsciously look for physical and personality characteristics that mothers possess. Girls look for “ father figures” in older men.
