Many of the first settlers died of disease, went to South Carolina, went back to England, possibly attacked by natives. 4.Why do you think there were many more settlers for whom the trustees paid their way in comparison to those who paid their own way? Most people were poor and could not afford to pay their own fare; debtors colony (no one came to Georgia to repay debt who where thrown in jail in England) Charity Doc. “A” Did not support Because no debtors Ever came to GA

DOCUMENT “B” THE WAR OF JENKIN’S EAR ~ ANSWERS 1. Jenkin’s ear was severed as punishment for raiding a Spanish ship. 2. Jenkin demanded retribution and hoped that the English parliament would be so outraged as to support the colonists efforts to defend the colony of Georgia from Spanish attacks. 3. According to the locations of both Spanish and English forts, it indicates that both countries claimed land in Georgia; eventually the English would drive the Spanish further south to the unofficially boundary of the St. John’s river.
