Fall of Muslim Spain Christian kingdoms in Spain began the Reconquista-the reconquest of the lands Muslims had taken in C.E.: Spain consisted of three Christian kingdoms: Portugal in the west, Castile in the center and Aragon on the Mediterranean coast. Only Granada in the south remained in the hands of the Moors, or Spanish Muslims.

Ferdinand of Castille and Isabella of Aragon The unification of Spain essentially occurred when these folks married, aka hooked up. 1492: Their armies defeated the last Moors in Grenada. Decided that all Spaniards must be Catholic or leave Spain.
What is an Empire A group of nations or peoples ruled over by an emperor, empress, or other powerful sovereign or government: usually a territory of greater extent than a kingdom, as the former British Empire, French Empire, Russian Empire, Byzantine Empire, or Roman Empire.
The Treaty of Tordesillas June 7, 1494: Spain and Portugal agreed to divide the “newly discovered” lands outside of Europe. Spain would control the territory west of the line and Portugal to the east.
