Plot  Plot is the sequence of events that make up a story. Every plot is made up of a series of incidents that are related to one another.

Plot Diagram

Exposition  This usually occurs at the beginning of a story.  It’s the part that introduces the characters, setting, and basic situation.

Initiating Event  The event introduces the central conflict.  It is the first turning point for the protagonist.  It sets the story in motion.

Rising Action  This is the bulk of the story and the biggest section of the plot structure.  It includes all of the events that build suspense and lead to the climax.

Climax  This part is the highest point of interest in the story.  It is the most exciting because the conflict is resolved here.

Falling Action  All loose ends of the plot are tied up.  The remaining conflicts are resolved.

Resolution  This part consists of the final events that end a work of fiction.
