Lets go over homework Purpose for reading: By reading this article, you will have a better idea of how to write an effective philosophy paper, also known as an argumentative paper. A.Answer the following question set: a)Make a list of a minimum of 5 suggestions or tips the author gives in order to write a good philosophical/argumentative paper. b)Why does the author suggest making several drafts of the paper?  What questions should you consider? c)How is this type of writing different than a 5-paragraph essay? B.Fill out graphic organizer attached to reading.

Work-Shopping an idea Lets share our outlines and thesis statements and see if they work…

Homework review: List and describe the following items:  What terms and ideas that need to be defined  3 reasons why your thesis is correct  Objections to reasons  Why objections are not correct

Think about your essay using our homework!  Section I: thesis  State thesis  Section II: Terms  List terms and ideas that need to be defined  Define terms and ideas  Section III: Reasons/argument  Reason(s) why your thesis is correct  Just one or two sentences describing it  Section IV: objections  1-3 sentences describing objections to reasons  Section V: refute objections  1-3 sentences describing why objections are not correct

Do not answer with a simple yes or no!  Section I:  How does the thesis make sense? Is it clearly defending or attacking Free will or Determinism?  Section II:  Can you think of any other terms or ideas that need to be defined?  Has the author clearly defined those terms and ideas well enough?  Section III:  Are these good reasons that can be explained using section II?  Section IV:  How realistic are these objections? Come up with some other objections to section II and III  Section V:  How did the author refute the objections?

Good bye Wrap up:  Questions, comments, concerns? Announcements:  None Homework  Write rough draft.  Draft must include everything but introduction.  State thesis at top of paper.  Must have a conclusion.
