Conferring-Building ( Don’t forget to bring some student from today.) Early Release Roseburg Public Schools-Elementary 1 st Trimester-2013

Today’s Goal Teachers will continue to learn about and practice the Mathematically Productive Teaching Routine, Conferring with Student Mathematicians

Read, Snapshots of Student Misunderstandings Think of a time when you were surprised by or wondered about a students’ mathematical thinking...what are questions you might have asked this students? After reading Snapshot 4, if the author hadn’t asked, “How did you figure that out”, what would her understanding of Heidi’s thinking have been?

Review Conferring Protocol How have you begun to work on this routine? What have you learned about your students’ mathematical thinking as a result? If you haven’t worked on this routine, what are things you need to help you get started?

Brainstorming Work with your partner to think about ways to regularly confer with students in your classroom.

Analyzing Student Work and Planning Purposeful Questions Grade level teams look at current student work. List wonderings about individual students or groups of students Draft questions to use to confer with students the next day

Before we finish… Please fill out the exit slip and leave on the center of your table before you leave.
