 Kathy Parks –  TCHS Health Teacher Titan Cycling Head Coaches  Robert Parks –  TCHS Engineering Teacher

 We compete in a “cross country” (XC) format.  This style of riding puts an emphasis on physical conditioning and bike handling skills.  This is NOT downhill racing or anything you would see on the X- Games.  Our goal is to introduce students to mountain biking and help them develop a lifelong hobby and lifestyle. Mountain Bike Racing

 Provide students who have the desire to mountain bike with the coaching and camaraderie that will help them achieve both competitive and non-competitive cross-country mountain biking goals in a safe and enjoyable manner.  Develop an awareness of what it is to be an amateur athlete that is both gracious and respectful to their community.  Create an environment in which they may discover new friendships and find role models.  Foster a responsible attitude toward the use of trails and wilderness. Philosophy

 National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) is the national governing body that oversees high school mountain bike racing.  NICA was established in  We are a member of the SoCal League of NICA; 68 teams  There is also a NorCal league and leagues in 15 other states. All are governed by NICA. Organizations

 Although our team is allowed to operate within our school, this is not a traditional school sport like football, baseball, etc.  We are acting as an independent body that is separate from the school and the district.  All participants sign waivers releasing liability of the school and district. Legal Info

 All registered students are insured through NICA.  The medical insurance is “excess coverage”.  Policy covers costs that personal health insurance does not cover.  $1 million liability insurance policy in place through NICA.  For students who do not have personal health insurance, the NICA insurance policy covers athletes. There is a $100 deductible.  All coaches and volunteers must complete a background check through NICA and LEUSD. Insurance & Liability

 Riders cannot have any D’s or F’s from the spring semester of  All riders must pass all their 1 st semester 2015 classes with a “C” or higher. Absolutely no D’s or F’s are acceptable.  D’s or F’s in season will result in loss of racing/practices.  Students and parents will be required to sign a team Code of Conduct contract.  Students cannot play a winter or spring sport due to safety and training considerations.  We hold our students to the highest standards. They will exemplify good sportsmanship, respect, hard work and honor. Eligibility and Behavior

Saturday pre-ride and Sunday races.  We will have other team items such as shirts, sweatshirts and stickers available for purchase. Costs

 Students must provide their own transportation to and from all practices and races.  Carpooling is encouraged  Tuesday and Thursday practices:  1.5 to 2 hours  Locations TBD – Canyon Lake, Santa Rosa Plateau, etc.  Saturday practices:  2-3 hours early in the morning  Locations TBD – race venues and other areas we cannot ride on school days.  Practice Calendar will be provided monthly Training and Practices

 All student athletes are expected to attend every practice session; students can miss 6 practices during the season with prior permission. Any student who misses more than 6 practices may be cut from the team.  Students who do not complete assigned additional individual training rides will have that absence count against the 6 missed practices.  Students must be picked up at the designated end time; consequences will be in place for repeat offenders.  This is a team sport that demands our students practice together, build relationships and support one another. Training and Practices

 All student training sessions will be tracked on Strava.  Strava is a free app available for smart phones. Students will log in any training session they complete so that coaches can track their work.  Students will be added to the Titan Cycling Team on Strava.  Strava also tracks personal records and team records for specific rides and trails. Strava
