World Resources An Overview

Types of Resources CAPITAL RESOURCES The money and machines used to produce goods or services.

HUMAN RESOURCES The people who perform various tasks.

NATURAL RESOURCES Materials that people take from the natural environment to survive and to satisfy their needs.

Renewable resources: resources that the environment continues to replace.

Nonrenewable Resources: Can not be replaced once they have been used.

Fossil Fuels These fuels are coal, oil and natural gas, which are formed from the remains of ancient plants and animals.

Important Minerals Iron Copper Aluminum Uranium Gold Recycling is one way to increase nonrenewable resources. 1,500 aluminum cans are recycled every second.

Energy Sources The main energy source of the world is Fossil Fuels. Today nations are searching for new energy. Where do you think most of the worlds Fossil Fuels are located? At the present rate the world’s fossil fuels will be depleted within the next century!!

Nuclear Energy Nuclear energy today is produced by fission- the splitting of uranium in a nuclear reactor to release their stored energy.

Geothermal Energy Volcanic activity has the potential to supply energy from the earth’s internal heat.

Solar Energy Solar energy is energy produced by the sun. Solar radiation is potentially the greatest renewable energy source.

Wind Power Creates electricity by turning a system of fan blades called a turbine

More Renewable Resources Information

Natural Resources Do you know how many miles a small car can travel using methane gas?

Nonrenewable Resources Extracting minerals from the earth is not a pretty sight.

Renewable Resource Water
