MODULE 7: CONCEPT

12 3 Concept A strong THEME concept captures a year’s uniqueness. UNIQUE EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS INSPIRE THEME IDEAS. THE THEME SETS THE TONE FOR THE STORY OF THE YEAR. MANY ELEMENTS CONTRIBUTE TO DEVELOPING A THEME. A GOOD THEME MEETS CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS.

12 3 Concept A theme concept is explained through VERBAL development. A FEW WORDS CAN SET THE TONE FOR THE THEME AND THE STORY OF THE YEAR. THE MAIN SLOGAN SPAWNS SECTION SPIN-OFF PHRASES. COPY GIVES THE DETAILS THAT TIE THE CONCEPT TO THE BOOK’S CONTENT. THE STYLE OF THE COPY SHOULD FIT THE THEME.

1 3 2 Concept VISUAL development makes the concept stand out while adding unity and personality to the yearbook. THE DESIGN OF THEME PAGES SHOULD HAVE A UNIQUE LOOK. PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW THE THEME’S RELEVANCE. TYPOGRAPHY SETS THE MEANING, TONE AND STYLE OF A THEME. GRAPHICS AND COLOR ADD PERSONALITY TO THE THEME.

1 3 2 Concept COVER: Introduces the concept, either directly or subtly, and makes a positive first impression.

1 3 2 Concept ENDSHEET: Complements the cover, supports concept and often showcases the contents listing.

1 3 2 Concept OPENING: Documents the concept using dynamic photography and expressive writing.

1 3 2 Concept DIVIDER: Indicates a new section and continues to develop the concept with words and photos.

1 3 2 Concept WHOLE BOOK LINK: Folio tab design reinforces the concept and incorporates student photos.
