Presentation transcript:

Research is the systematic investigation to establish facts or solve a problem It is important in order to learn something new about a topic

Research Paper A good research paper includes: – Variety of relevant sources – Thesis Statement – Interesting topic – New and interesting facts

Primary Sources First-hand knowledge of what has happened. Examples – Diaries – Journals – Interviews – Letters – Eyewitness accounts

Secondary Sources Source that was created later by someone who did not experience first- hand or participate in the events or conditions you’re researching – Encyclopedia – Periodical (Magazines/Newspapers) – Textbook – Websites

The main idea of an essay. It is usually no longer than 1-2 sentences. Thesis Statement

Interesting Topic Choose something you are interested in – Make sure your topic isn’t too broad – For example: Too Broad: Wars Narrowed: World War I

New and Interesting Facts Attempt to pick a subject that you are interested in, but don’t know a great deal about – If you are going to take the time to do research, learn something. A novel idea I know!!!
