Intervention in the workplace….policy?

Self-Care!

ALCOHOLIC? DRUG ADDICT? SUBSTANCE MISUSER? A PERSON WHOSE DRINKING OR DRUG USE IS CAUSING PROBLEMS

WHAT IS AN INTERVENTION? AN INTERVENTION IS A PROCESS WHERE A PERSON IS ENCOURAGED TO FACE REALITY

SIGNS OF DRUGS/ALCOHOL MISUSE IN OTHERS  LYING  BORROWING MONEY – MAYBE STEALING  MOOD SWINGS – POOR RELATIONSHIPS  ACCIDENTS  COMPLAINTS BY OTHER STAFF OR THE PUBLIC  FAULTY MEMORY – POOR JUDGEMENT  DETERIORATION IN PERSONAL APPEARANCE  OBVIOUS SIGNS OF ALCOHOL

PREPARING FOR INTERVENTION  DECIDE WHO IS TO BE INVOLVED  THOSE INVOLVED SHOULD HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF DRUGS/ALCOHOL USE  LIST SPECIFIC INCIDENTS  HAVE ARRANGEMENTS IN PLACE TO ASSIST STAFF TO ACCESS TREATMENT  APPOINT AN APPROPRIATE LEADER  HAVE A POLICY FOR THE INTERVENTION

BENEFITS OF TREATMENT FOR THE ADDICT  BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE  IMPROVED RELATIONSHIPS  IMPROVED HEALTH  LESS STRESS FOR THE STAFF  IMPROVED QUALITY OF WORK  IMPROVED MORALE  FEWER ACCIDENTS

What is my responsibility?…… Evaluate safety issues Provide structure and support Define your “successful” outcome Planning the intervention Ask for definition of accountability and responsibility

Boundaries I am sad to hear that you refuse our help. You need to know that if you do not do something about your alcohol/drug use the company will be forced to………
