Coordinate Plane Notes
Coordinate Plane Formed by two number lines, called axes, that intersect to form right angles at their zero points.
Origin The point at which the two axes intersect. Origin
The horizontal number line. X-Axis The horizontal number line. X
The vertical number line. Y-Axis Y The vertical number line.
Ordered Pair A pair of numbers that represent the location of a point on the coordinate plane. The ordered pair for the origin is (0, 0). An ordered pair is always written in parentheses. Origin (0,0)
Ordered Pair X-Coordinate: the first number in the ordered pair; located by moving left or right. Y-Coordinate: the second number in the ordered pair; located by moving up or down. Point (3,-2) move to the right 3 and down 2. Point (3,-2)
Quadrants The four regions formed by the intersection of the two axes The regions are numbered with Roman numerals; The numbering begins in the top right quadrant and moves counter-clockwise. II I III IV
