Entrance of the Cave Roots or The Cave of Eumaeus, Ithaca

According to Greek mythology and especially Iliad, Eumaeus was the loyal pigshepherd of Odysseus who made great efforts in order his master’s fortune to be untouched during his twenty years absence. It is claimed that Eumaeus lived in that cave and in that place also, Odysseus fled at the time of his return to Ithaca after his ten year voyage and goddess Athena’s advice in order to meet Eumaeus and be informed in detail about all the events taken place to his homeland during his absence. At the cave and with goddess Athena’s intervention the recognition between Odysseus and Telemachus took place and hatched out their plan for the elimination of the contenders

Erectheion, the most sacred place in Athens

Α ccording to mythology in that area took place the altercation between Athena and Poseidon for the domination on the city of Athens. Poseidon, god of the sea, hit with his fork the rock and seawater began to spring. When her turn came, Athena hit with her spear the rock and an olive tree sprouted up. Gods that were the judges decided Athena would be the winner. But Athenians desiring to conciliate the two rival gods decided to dedicate a sanctuary to both of them under the same roof. The eastern part of the temple was dedicated to Athena’s worship, the protector’s of the city, while the western one was dedicated to Poseidon- Erectheas, where the name Erectheion derives. Hence the most peculiar structure of the Acropolis, in terms of architectural design, was built. The Sacred Evidence, the traces of Poseidon’s fork and the olive tree, present of Athena gift to the city of Athens, were kept in that place.

Ladon the legendary river of Arcadia

Ladon, the legendary river of Arcadia As far as it concerns mythology, goddess Dimitra was swimming in his waters while goddess Diana was hunting at his banks. Nearby the goatshaped god Panas was wandering around who saw and loved at first sight the Nymph Syringe and started to go after her. As she was exhausted she reached the river banks and pleaded for Ladon’s help. Hence, he transformed her into the form of canes and Panas slashed some of these canes and created the Syringe, a musical instrument that only he used. Finally in that place god Apollon fell in love with Ladon’s daughter Daphne.

Lake Stymphalia The residence of The Stymphalian Birds

Lake Stymphalia, The residence of The Stymphalian Birds According to mythology, in that area goddess Hera was raised, and there had also fled the Stymphalian Birds, cannibal birds with bronze beaks, claws and wings. Their elimination was the sixth feat of Heracles who killed them with the assistance of goddess Athena and his friend Iolaos..
