Iraq’s efforts to impose law on Camp Ashraf August 2009 Camp Ashraf renamed Camp New Iraq Iraqi flag flown outside the camp MEK checkpoint replaced by Iraqi checkpoint April 2011 A judicial order instructs - one third of the land to be restored to rightful owners December 2011 Under Iraq’s Constitution, MEK must leave Iraq by this deadline

Why has it not been possible to remove the MEK? The nature of the MEK organisation The MEK is a dangerous, destructive mind-control cult MEK uses violence to resist interference The role of external agencies in preventing Iraq from expelling the group International community (US and EU) have clearly sided with cult leader Misinformation in resolutions and parliamentary speeches to promote MEK External Agencies can choose to support the democratic government of Iraq or Support the leader of an unelected, totalitarian cult

External agencies must beware of cult manipulation Maryam Rajavi has threatened a violent reaction to external interference in the camp Neither Massoud Rajavi nor Maryam Rajavi represent the interests of the hostages in Camp Ashraf - Therefore they cannot negotiate on their behalf MEK is a cult – Cult experts should be involved to prevent deaths and injury to all

Families - Rajavi’s greatest fear Rajavi calls families ‘bombs’ of destruction Family ties will break Rajavi’s hold over members Families stay at the gate for two years and still not able to access relatives inside Camp Ashraf Families are the solution, not the problem

Who should go into the camp? Iraqi authorities have the right to enter the camp on - Legal basis - moral basis - human rights and health basis Humanitarian agencies UNHRC, ICRC have legitimate and moral right to enter the camp United Nations High Commission for Refugees will conduct individual screening for Camp Ashraf residents

How to open the gates of Camp Ashraf? Representation UN refugee interviews accompanied by cult experts and family representatives Information Humanitarian agencies – ICRC – can give information to Camp Ashraf residents Help Families are there to help their relatives

Families are the solution not the problem
