HealthyPeople 2020

Healthy People Say What? Healthy People is a program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that sets health objectives for the nation for a ten-year period. The current list of objectives (launched in December 2010) is called Healthy People “The Physical Activity objectives for Healthy People 2020 reflect the strong state of the science supporting the health benefits of regular physical activity among youth and adults, as identified in the PAG. Regular physical activity includes participation in moderate and vigorous physical activities and muscle-strengthening activities.” (

The Goal is to increase the levels of physical activity in the U.S, along with improving overall health. Over 80% of adults don’t meet the guidelines for both aerobic and muscle- strengthening activities. Likewise, over 80% of adolescents don’t do enough aerobic physical activity to meet the guidelines for youth.
