Information Point By Anya Randev

This PowerPoint is about the Olympic/Paralympics values and how SmallSteps4Life promote them.

The Olympic Values respect – fair play; knowing one’s own limits; and taking care of one’s health and the environment excellence – how to give the best of oneself, on the field of play or in life; taking part; and progressing according to one’s own objectives friendship – how, through sport, to understand each other despite any differences

Paralympic Values The Paralympic Values are based on the history of the Paralympic Games and the tradition of fair play and honourable sports competition. Values: courage determination inspiration equality.

How SmallSteps4Life Promotes the Olympics/Paralympics The Olympics are not just about sport and competition! The games promote the seven Olympic and Paralympic values which include excellence, friendship and equality. The SmallSteps4Life programme is inspired by London 2012 and promotes Olympic values amongst young people. It is about taking small steps to improve lifestyles by taking challenges to eat well, get active and feel good. The challenges last for four weeks and encourage a 'can do' attitude.

Eat Well Information Eating healthily is about eating the right amount of food for your energy needs. In England, most adults are either overweight or obese so we should eat and drink fewer calories in order to lose weight. Based on the eat well plate, you should try to eat: Plenty of fruit and vegetables Plenty of potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and other starchy foods Some milk and dairy foods Some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein Just a small amount of foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar Based on my survey I took, many of the candidates did not drink enough water each. You are meant to drink 8litres per day so that can be a challenge to eat well!

Getting Active Information Do something you enjoy and soon you’ll begin to see the benefits. And there are loads of benefits to being physically active. Such as: Having fun Having more energy Being able to sleep better Keeping flexible Feeling more relaxed and happier Having a healthy heart Having stronger muscles and bones Maintaining a healthy weight

Feeling Good Here are some tips on how to deal with stuff when times are tough: Get rest Stay upbeat Have fun Enjoy the moment Talk to a friend Stay cool
