November 16, :00pm Interactive Video Network Masters Degree/Secondary Principal Travis Jordan Oral Presentation (Planting the Seeds for Educational Administration)

Introduction A short autobiography. My experiences in the program. The following slides will show you what I believe to be my strengths, and weaknesses in the administration field. Also in the following slides I will show you what I plan to do in regards to professional development, and I will discuss my Educational Leadership philosophy.

My Practicum Concentration Areas -Community and Media Relations -Information Management and Evaluation -Curriculum, Supervision, Evaluation, and the Learning Environment. -Organizational Management Major Projects -Video inventory of schools -State Assessment Evaluation -Supervision – Teachers/Activities -Radio Show

Practicum Continued Takeaways from the Experience -Great Opportunities -Strengthened Competency Areas -Networking (Administrative Conference) -Plans can change!!!

Strengths The following areas are areas in which I feel that I’m at the positive end of the competency stage or the advanced stage in terms of performance. 1. Professional and Ethical Behavior 2. Information Management 3. Communication Skills 4. Technology Skills 5. Networking

Areas of Growth The following four areas are the areas in which I feel that I’m at the developmental stage in terms of performance. 1. Financial Management and Resource Allocation 2. Staff Recruitment and Hiring 3. Personality Characteristics 4. Working with community organizations to enhance the school environment

Professional Development Plan The following are my short and long term goals for my development as and educational administrator. 1. Devote time for weekly research. 2. Continue to practice teacher evaluations and observations. 3. Serve on hiring committee for the following year. 4. Observe larger school districts that contain outside organizations. 5. Keep the lines of communication open with the network of individuals that I know and have gotten to know through out this degree.

Professional Development Plan (Continued) 6. Serve on the negotiations committee as our teacher representative. 7. Work with the superintendent analyzing and developing a budget. 8. Work with Principal this spring on the class schedule. 9. Continue to update myself on school law and review recent court decisions.

Philosophy of Education All questions asked in a school setting should ultimately focus on what is best for students. People are more important than programs. Theory Y type leadership will get the best results. All children have a unique ability to learn, and we must transform our classrooms from teacher-centered to student- centered. Determination + Motivation = Positive Education

Summary/Conclusion My experiences in the Educational Leadership program have provided the seeds for me to be an effective administrator. I feel that I’m ready to plant the seeds and grow in the profession. In about 30 years I will be ready to be harvested. During the years there will be some favorable weather, and maybe a few bad storms, but through them I will continue to grow. I’m ready to be an administrator. Thank you, and I will take any questions that you may have of me.
