ELA/Literacy Idaho Core Standards Key Shifts

ARE Statements that summarize what makes the Idaho Core different. Scaffolds to help educators know where to start. ARE NOT Statements that capture all of the intricacies of the Idaho Core. A “quick fix”.

ELA Key Shifts * Students will build knowledge and academic language through a balance of content rich, complex nonfiction and literary texts. * Students will participate in Reading/Writing/Speaking that is grounded in evidence from the text, across the curriculum. * Students will use digital resources strategically to conduct research and create and present material in oral and written form. * Students will collaborate effectively for a variety of purposes while also building independent literacy skills.

* Students will build knowledge and academic language through a balance of content rich, complex nonfiction and literary texts. The ELA/Literacy standards highlight the growing complexity of the texts that students read, in order to be ready for the demands of college, career, and life. Students must be immersed in information about the world around them if they are to develop the strong general knowledge and vocabulary they need to become successful readers.
