1. ABSTRACT Smart Home is designed for energy efficiency. It includes high efficiency fixtures, day lighting, PIR sensor and automatic controls that make adjustments based on conditions such as occupancy. This smart Home system is connected to MSP 430. Present paper deals with design and development of a smart Home system which is controlled by MSP430 microcontroller and power line communication.

2. OBJECTIVES The objective of this paper is to survey WSN for the home/office automation and presents the different technologies used, topology used, user interfacing techniques etc.

3. BLOCK DIAGRAM

4. METHODOLOGY: When person enters in home/office password has to be entered and password is verified by controller if entered password is correct then door will be opened and depending on the sensors automation can be controlled. The lighting model uses Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) which are driven by a driver. The output of LDR is connected to comp this lighting model is controlled by Comparator which receives the commands from the LDR or from a manually controlled system. To this lighting model different sensors are also connected as shown in the diagram.

5. ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES:  ADVANTAGES: 1. Walking up to the regulators board to change the fan speed is avoided. 2. Unnecessary wastage of electricity can be controlled to a greater extend. 3. Maximum power can be saved. 4. Selectable Sensitivity, Sensitivity can be adjusted to match installation requirements. 5. Wide supply voltage range: 3.0V to 15V in COMPARATOR.

DISADVANTAGES: 1. High capital expenditure required to invest in automation (an automated system can cost millions of dollars to design, fabricate, and install). 2. A higher level of maintenance needed than with a manually operated machine, and a generally lower degree of flexibility in terms of the possible products as compared with a manual system. 3. Also there are potential risks that automation technology will ultimately subjugate rather than serve humankind.

6.APPLICATIONS: 1.Password Based Locking System. 2.Fire and Smoke sensor. 3.Light saving system. 4. Temperature controlled cooling system 5. Counter dependent automatic switching system of room.

7. CONCLUSION: Thus we provide a smart lighting system using MSP430 microcontroller which helps to reduce energy usage and cost by eliminating over – illumination and unnecessary waste. This system provides centralized control of all lighting within a home or commercial building, allowing easy implementation of scheduling, occupancy control, daylight harvesting and more through power line communication. This system also supports demand response and will automatically dim or turn off lights to take advantage of demand response incentives and cost savings.
