3 Activities in 2011 The draft version of the International Recommendations for Energy Statistics (IRES) was adopted by the Statistical Commission during its Forty-second session in February The 6th meeting of the Oslo Group, 2-5 May 2011, Canberra, Australia, was dedicated to the preparation of the Energy Statistics Compilers Manual (ESCM) which is intended to provide practical guidance to IRES. In particular, the meeting agreed on a three-stage work plan: (1) Collection of country practices and textual inputs for the ESCM (2) Consolidation of the material into a complete draft ESCM (3) Consultation and review of the draft

4 Activities in 2012 The Country practice template was circulated to countries by UNSD in February Around 90 practices from over 45 countries have now been published on the UN Country Practice webpage : A survey was then sent out by the secretariat to the Oslo and the London Group members to encourage countries to contribute to the writing of the ESCM. Based on the final report from 6th Oslo Group meeting in Canberra, as well as on the response on the survey, main ESCM- chapter coordinators and volunteers (National Statistics Institutes and International organisations) was established.

5 Activities in 2012 ESCM coordinators have started the drafting process and initiated the working groups for each of the chapters. UNSD and the secretariat has provided in June a note with some guidelines to the coordinators and writers of the ESCM-chapters The main responsibility for the coordinators has been reviewing relevant submitted country practices, coordinating textual inputs, obtaining comments from the other countries that have volunteered and drafting the first version of the chapters.

6 Activities in 2012 continues… The first draft versions of the chapters was published at the Oslo Group website prior to the meeting: A revised draft of the ESCM will be prepared after the 7th Oslo Group meeting and this will be reviewed at forthcoming London and Oslo Group meetings. The secretariat are really looking forward to discussing the draft chapters and we wish you all a very good meeting!
