The large initial peak includes people who watch a programme for a few seconds and then break the link, also those who have initial connection trouble, reconnect more than once and then settle down to watch the programme properly. Since most programmes on the site are one hour long, 10% indicates they are watching for at least 6 minutes.

This should have government funding as well. The BBC was originally set up to educate the public and is failing miserably with its magazine format for everything. I have been waiting and waiting for a separate 'science' channel to be started on television, which is the best 'main' medium for learning. I agree that there are other areas of education that still need to be pushed alongside of the science aspects e.g languages, arts, literature etc. Where can we as mere public connect with to state our view that we still want to learn 'what is out there'.
