Counting Stars By: One Republic Zachary Shin Ms. Galloway English 20 March 14

Summary In this song the speaker got crush to other girl. But he don’t have brave to propose to her. So he is kept thinking about her. Also he thinking it’s impossible to hang out with her because speaker think that she has boyfriend.

Speaker The speaker’s tone is happy or melancholy. The speaker is 2 nd person because someone made the song and he is singing. Also the mood of the song is very calm. Because at first it’s calm, but later it gets happy and excited.

Musically The beat of the song made very exited sound. The instrument used was piano, drum, and guitar. The beat was fast and melodic.

Theme The theme of the song is when you meet a girl that you like, get a brave and propose to her. In the song there is two evidence. First one is on line (2) “Dreaming about the things we could be.” the second one is on line (22) “Lately I been losing sleep.”

Figurative Language Metaphor (10) In my face is flashing signs It means that the speaker saw a girl and his face get red and embarrassed

Figurative Language Hyperbole (26) We’ll be counting stars. It means that is very hard to propose to her.

Figurative Language Personification (45) Makes me wanna fly It means that the speaker feels very good because of the girl.

Personal Connection I choose this song because this song relate to my friend. I also like this song because I like the beat of the song. There is guitar, piano, and drum makes a beautiful sound.
