Words Of Wisdom For Children & Parents (Proverbs, Chapters 10-29)

“Words of Wisdom for Children & Parents” We will be dealing with what God has to say concerning the Parent/Child relationship in Proverbs, chapters 10-29. Desired outcome: To learn how we might be more faithful in carrying out parental duties. To learn of God’s expectations for children.

Children must be taught wisdom, judgment, & proper values. Even a child is known by his deeds, whether what he does is pure and right. (Prov. 20:11, NKJV) Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. (Prov. 22:6, NKJV) Proverbs 23:19-21, 24-26; “Hear… Be wise… Listen… Observe my ways”.

A child left to its own devices will be ruined & bring grief to its parents. The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is the grief of his mother. (Prov. 10:1, NKJV) A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man despises his mother. (Prov. 15:20, NKJV) A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him. (Prov. 17:25, NKJV) Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons shames his father. (Prov. 28:7, NKJV) Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice, but a companion of harlots wastes his wealth. (Prov. 29:3, NKJV)

Discipline will deliver the child’s soul from destruction. He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly. (Prov. 13:24, NKJV) Chasten your son while there is hope, and do not set your heart on his destruction. (Prov. 19:18, NKJV) Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of correction will drive it far from him. (Prov. 22:15, NKJV)

Discipline will deliver the child’s soul from destruction. Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. 14 You shall beat him with a rod, and deliver his soul from hell. (Prov. 23:13-14, NKJV) The rod and rebuke give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. (Prov. 29:15, NKJV) Correct your son, and he will give you rest; Yes, he will give delight to your soul. (Prov. 29:17, NKJV)

Pay attention to what godly parents are teaching. A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. (Prov. 13:1, NKJV) A fool despises his father's instruction, but he who receives correction is prudent. (Prov. 15:5, NKJV) My son, if your heart is wise, my heart will rejoice--indeed, I myself; 16 Yes, my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak right things. (Prov. 23:15-16, NKJV) Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old. (Prov. 23:22, NKJV)

One of the worst things a child can do is to show disrespect to his parents. He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow, and the father of a fool has no joy. (Prov. 17:21, NKJV) A foolish son is the ruin of his father, and the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping. (Prov. 19:13, NKJV) He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach. (Prov. 19:26, NKJV) Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in deep darkness. (Prov. 20:20, NKJV)

One of the worst things a child can do is to show disrespect to his parents. Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says, "It is no transgression," The same is companion to a destroyer. (Prov. 28:24, NKJV) There is a generation that curses its father, and does not bless its mother. (Prov. 30:11, NKJV) The eye that mocks his father, and scorns obedience to his mother, The ravens of the valley will pick it out, and the young eagles will eat it. (Prov. 30:17, NKJV)

“Words of Wisdom for Children & Parents” Children must be taught wisdom, judgment, & proper values. A child left to its own devices will be ruined & bring grief to its parents. Discipline will deliver the child’s soul from destruction. Children have the responsibility in paying attention to what godly parents are teaching. One of the worst things a child can do is to show disrespect to his parents.

To Become a Child of God...  You must hear/read the gospel of Jesus Christ (Rom. 10:14,17).  You must believe in Jesus Christ (Acts 16:30-33). You must repent of all of your past sins (Acts 17:30-31). You must confess your faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 8:35-37). You must be baptized into Jesus Christ (Acts 8:38; 22:16). After becoming saved, you must live a faithful/righteous life to remain saved (1 Timothy 4:16; 1 John 1:7). Eternal life in heaven awaits only the persons who are faithful/righteous (1 Peter 1:3-5; Matthew 25:34).

One Spirit, One Lord, One God… There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (Eph. 4:4-6, NKJV) Acts 2:38; 19:3-5; 22:16; 1Peter 3:21-22; 2 Peter 1:10
