Update on PG Program Plan & AWG product prioritization Bonnie Reed

PG Program Plan Status Proving Ground Program plan documents the NOAA plan for organizing and conducting “proving ground” activities to facilitate early operational integration of future GOES capabilities. Describes the Proving Ground Purpose and Scope Identifies a timeline of activities leading up to launch Provides guidelines for PG participation Defines PG Partners and their Functions Includes templates for PG Operations Plan Proposal, PG Operations Plan, and PG Final Report. Schedule for Distribution 12/28/2009 –Draft Plan distributed to PGEB for review and comment 01/15/ Receive comments from PGEB reviewers 01/2010 – Incorporate comments/modify Plan 02/01/2010 – Initial version of PG Program Plan distributed to PG Participants

AWG Product Prioritization The scope of the Proving Ground Program encompasses AWG-demonstrated algorithm products as first priority. After AWG-demonstrated algorithms have been demonstrated, risk reduction products, integrated products, and decision aids may be demonstrated The PGEB and the National Weather Service have identified a set of GOES-R Products as “Warning Related” products - they directly contribute to NWS Warning Mission (Save Lives & Property). The GOES-R PG activities should focus on the AWG version of these algorithms/products for demonstration due to their classification. The Products are: Baseline ProductsOption 2 Products Volcanic Ash: Det. & Height Cloud and Moisture Imagery Hurricane Intensity Lightning Detection: EGF Rainfall Rate / QPE Total Precipitable Water Fire/Hot Spot Characterization Aircraft Icing Threat Convective Initiation Enhanced "V" / OTD Low Cloud and Fog SO2 Detection
