Fall 2014 Wednesdays and Friday 8:00 am - 9:50 am VPAC 210 Office: VPAC 215Phone: Office hours: By appointment, W+F 1-2, R 10-2 ID 206 Construction + Materials II

Students investigate the properties of interior finishes, furniture and textiles. The appropriate selection and specification of materials based upon code, occupant comfort, universal design, sustainability and aesthetics is researched. Life cycle analysis is used to determine the source, manufacture, transportation and disposal of a product. Viable information sources for sustainable products are explored. Catalog Description

At the end of this course, students will be able to: To demonstrate an understanding of the basic properties of most finish materials, textiles and freestanding furniture including their effect on human health and safety To demonstrate an understanding of how to evaluate environmental factors in the production, transportation, use and disposal of interior construction, finish and furnishing materials To be able to make appropriate choices, selection and specifications for interior finishes, textiles and furniture by considering the product’s application and sustainable, aesthetic, installation and maintenance factors To demonstrate an application of Sustainable Strategies during the Design Process To demonstrate an understanding of financial and cost aspects of alternative environmentally friendly materials, textiles and furniture.
