Identify the many motives for Imperialism on the blackboard

Evaluate the impact that European Imperialism played in the world Analyze/Judge the reasons Europeans created for following New Imperialism Why do I have this picture? 

How would you define it? New Imperialism = –revival of imperialism around 1870 and the scramble of European countries to get colonies – Cartoon  Old Imperialism = 1500s to 1700s

Based on this map, who won the “simulation?” –Who got the head start? By 1914, who is conquered? –Did the people of these regions have a say?

How Africa is chopped up

2 opposing sides of the Parliament of Great Britain have to convince the Prime Minister (me) their side to this question… –“New Imperialism will be an overall beneficial and utilitarian policy for the country of GB and its empire.” 1850 Parliament vs 2014 Parliament Rules to this debate –5 minutes for your side to brainstorm your argument –Inner debate circle will have 3 members from each side debating (you can use your blue sheet and sources) –After 5 minutes, I will call for another round of debating where new members from each side tap in the place of their debate comrades. –Respect your fellow congressmen in your mini-debate!! One speaker at a time (write down your counter-points!!!) So side chatter for the outside debaters

“To open [Africa] to civilization…the only part of our globe where it has not yet penetrated, to pierce the darkness which envelops whole populations, is a crusade, if I may say so, a crusade worthy of this century of progress.” Condemned for his treatment of Africans

What happens if too many countries do this? ↓ What will/can the rest of the world do?
