2 nd Grade Curriculum Letter Grades The NES Grading scale is posted on our classroom website and in the 2 nd Grade Handbook. Letter grades will be given for Reading, English (includes spelling) and Math. BE ENCOURAGING AND UNDERSTANDING! This may be the toughest transition to 2 nd grade for students and parents. Classroom Book Club The goal for our classroom book club is to increase individual reading levels through differentiation and to develop fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. The STAR reading test will be used as a diagnostic tool throughout the year. Reading levels will be reassessed monthly.

Classroom Book Club Begins in September and will continue through March. We will not do book club during Wax Museum. You will NOT be signing a slip Books should be returned each day. Your child will take an Accelerated Reader (AR) quiz on each book.

Sign Up for E-reports

Classroom Book Club Nightly reading should be a shared literature experience. PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR CHILD READ. Discuss vocabulary words and concepts, encourage fluency and tone, and ask questions. Enjoy this time with your child. The age of them wanting to read with you will quickly disappear after this year. Praise your child’s efforts!

Math Homework Your child will have math homework. Homework will come home in a math homework folder in your child’s TIGER binder. It should be returned in this folder as well. Sometimes, I allow the children to do side B in class. Please provide a work area for them at home with a pencil and any other needed supplies.

Math Homework cont. Life happens! Homework Coupons Homework coupons are earned for an “A” on the written math test. Gifts from Mrs. Arnold Homework coupons may be “purchased” with Arnold Loot in our store. Strike Card Please sign and return the next day.
