i’ve got a feelin’… (Black Eyed Peas Flash Mob) Students were really responsive to dancing to a current song. It was a great way to get the students hooked onto dancing. They enjoyed the challenge of choreographed movements with Christopher leading the way. site visit
Getting’ jiggy with it… (Irish Jig) site visit Students really enjoyed the Irish Jig because it gave them an introduction into partner dancing without too much physical contact. With Christopher as their “caller” students anticipated their next move without having to memorize the choreography.
the energy… Mike Carlson’s class chose to capture the energy of the movement through the use of digital photography as an experiment. These photographs showed the students how movement and dance are critical for expression and how the arts are interconnected. site visit
inspired… A student takes on the idea of capturing movement and expression for an independent project in Mike Carlson’s class.
disco… (Stayin’ Alive) Jenn Piepgras’ physical education class learning more than the signature ‘change the oil’ move to this song… site visit
merengue… Students from Jenn Piepgras’ physical education class really enjoyed partner dancing in the Merengue style. The step-by-step instructions with Christopher as their partner and frequently changing partners helped put the students at ease. site visit
warmin’ up… Students learned that stretching and isolating each individual area of the body before dancing is critical to being able to focus and prevent injuries site visit
i’ve got a feelin’… (Black Eyed Peas Flash Mob) …that the students would remember a lot from the first visit and they did. Students were able to pick up the moves even quicker this time around and able to teach peers who missed the first visit! site visit
another line formation… After proving they could remember choreography, Christopher challenged students with another line formation dance with more complex choreography and the students loved it. site visit
tango… It took two to tango and that was a little scary at first. Students were hesitant, especially the males because they had to be polite, take instruction and take the lead. After their first partner (by choice) was switched up with a new partner, it became more about the dancing and less about who they were leading. Many young men picked it up easily and enjoyed exaggerating the moves while staying in control. site visit
cha cha slide… By the third visit, students knew many of the dances and began to anticipate the next move and even improvised the moves to suit their personalities. site visit
conga… On this visit students were comfortable making a conga line and being able to stay together as a group, have fun and even try to kick on cue. site visit
