Where do the funds come from? Pilot project FY : $24,000/year  Dean of University Libraries  Provost  Vice President for Research FY 2016: $60,000, FY 2015: $50,000  Dean of University Libraries  Provost

What has the VT OASF supported?

How is the OASF allocated? To authors that do not have any other source of funding $ per article x 2/yr  Max $3000 per author per year  Prorated for multiple VT co-authors  $1500 distributed among the VT co-authors  3 authors of one article subsidized at $500 each

Who can you take advantage of the VT OASF? The entire Virginia Tech community  Faculty  Staff  Graduate students  Undergraduate students

Who has used the FY2016 OASF to date

Stipulations  Peer-reviewed article accepted for publication in open access or hybrid journal  Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association, COPE, or similar code of conduct Open Access Scholarly Publishers AssociationCOPE  Journals registered in an OA directory, such as  Directory of Open Access Journals Directory of Open Access Journals  SHERPA/RoMEO SHERPA/RoMEO  Hybrid journal publishers reduce institutional subscriptions  Funds allocated in order requests received  Invoice received by library w/in 30 days

Request OASF  Name  PID  Department and college  Co-authors  Status (e.g., faculty, graduate student, another university, etc.)  Article: title, journal, publisher  Publisher’s fee  Funding amount request  Link to journal’s OA policy  No alternative sources of article support

Review, vet, prioritize, notify  Applications reviewed by team of librarians  Gail McMillan, fund manager  Funds  Eligibility  Guidelines  notification (10 days)
