2 Some history:  John Scott’s model of the proposed Church produced vociferous objections  His 1970 Presbytery design was likened to African huts  He also designed the Parish Centre (opened in 1987) Our Lady of Lourdes Church Havelock North

3 Futuna Chapel Built in 1958 N OTES :  Post-Vatican II orientation – with the altar placed so the Priest says the Mass facing the congregation  Use of colours in the windows and the play of light, timber framing, and timber ceiling

4 Our Lady of Lourdes Church Havelock North Built in 1959 First Wedding 3 November 1962 N OTE : Pre-Vatican II – with the altar placed against the wall at the front of the Church, so the Priest said much of the Mass (in Latin) with his back to the congregation
