Level 3 Language Arts with Ms.Sheri Lesson 3 Digraphs Questions

In lesson 2 we learned about short vowel sounds. Today we will learn about digraphs. Diagraphs are two letters joined together to make one sound.

sh says /sh/ ch says /ch/ th says /th/ wh says /hw/ qu says /kw/ Say the sounds aloud with me.

sh says /sh/ ch says /ch/ th says /th/ wh says /hw/ qu says /kw/ Say the sounds aloud with me again.

Here are some nonsense words we will sound out together to practice digraphs. quetwhas thun shis chan puch sith quem nach whid

You will do a diagraph worksheet similar to the following activity. First underline the digraph. Then, read the words aloud. Last, write the words under the sound that they make. whatshad quilt themchin sash quizbath whip

whatshad quilt themchin sash quizbath whip

what th em i quz sh a d chin bath qu i lt s a wh sh i p

/sh//ch//wh/ /th/ /qu/ shad sash chin what whip them bath quilt quiz

This is the end of today's phonics lesson. You will practice the skill with the Dipthong Worksheet.

I will read the chapter called The Potato Face Blind Man Who Lost the Diamond Rabbit on His Gold Accordian from Rootabaga Stories.

First we will talk more about what good readers do. Ask Questions Good readers ask questions before, during, and after they read. I wonder how the main character got his name, The Potato Face Blind Man. I wonder how long it took him to learn to play the accordion.

Make Predictions Good readers make predictions before and during reading. This means they make guesses about what they think will happen next. It is important to constantly think about what will happen next even if your last prediction didn't come true. I think that the Potato Face Blind Man will play his accordion in this story.

Now I will read the story. I want you to be thinking of questions and predictions as you listen.

Here are some questions I had while reading. How did Any Ice Today know it had once been a grand accordion? I wonder why Any Ice Today thought it had been stolen. Why did the Potato Face Blind Man keep playing sad or sleepy songs if he knew the diamond rabbit would disappear ?

Here are some predictions I had while I was reading. I thought that Potato Face Blind Man was going to play a sleepy song and the diamond rabbit would reappear. I thought that the Potato Face Blind Man was going to play a song for Any Ice Today.

Assignment: 1.Do the dipthong worksheet 2.Read sight words aloud 3.Read along with the chapter called How the Potato Face Blind Man Enjoyed Himself on a Fine Spring Morning in Rootabaga Stories 4. Write down two questions and a reaction to this chapter in your journal Good-bye
