Western Imperialism By: Gabriel Ramos

Africa: Reason 1 One reason Africa was impacted in Western Imperialism was the fact that they lost all control over there own territory. Ethiopia and Liberia were the only African territories that were not conquered by Europeans since they were able to fight against them. The Berlin Conference was a meeting held to set specific rules for imperialism in Africa so that is would be equal share. The British, French, German, Italian, and many more were the ones that had some sort of territory in Africa.

Africa: Reason 2 A second reason Africa was impacted by Western European interests was the way Europeans were able to take control over trade and the raw materials in Africa. One example was Henry M. Stanley, an explorer from Belgium. Stanley was able to establish trading stations by signing “treaties” with local African chiefs to give Belgium an early control of Africa in 1876.

Africa: Reason 3 The final reason Africa was affected by Western European interests was war conflicts in Africa. For instance, France was looking forward to conquer the last remaining unclaimed territory which was the upper reaches of the Nile. But, since the British threatened France with war, The French decided to withdraw from the territory and let Great Britain to take over.

Africa: Academic Paragraph Western European interests impacted Africa in negative ways that just damaged the African culture. One way Africa was affected by European interests was by the amount of territory Africans lost. Most of African countries were conquered by Europeans except for Ethiopia and Liberia. African couldn’t do anything to stop so they just let the European boss them around. A second way Africa was impacted by European interest was the loss of control of trade and raw materials. Henry M. Stanley from Belgium was able to establish trading stations in Africa to give them a early advantage over the control in Africa. The third way Africa was impacted by European interests was the war conflict in the territory. France and Britain were fighting to grab the last remaining unclaimed territory which was the upper areas of the Nile. But, eventually France backed down and gave the territory to the British.

Asia: Reason 1 One way Asia was affected by Western European interests was the way Asia was losing political control on their own territory. In 1815, the Dutch ruled little more than the island of Java in the East Indies. In addition, the French took control of Indochina in 1880s. India, Japan, and China were also in the mix of experiencing political authority.

Asia: Reason 2 The second reason why European imperialism affected Asia was the lost of land to industrialized powers. One example was Russia conquering Muslim areas to the south in the Caucasus and in Central Asia. Even reaching the borders of Afghanistan in United States also conquered land like the Philippines.

Asia: Reason 3 The last reason Western European interests impacted Asia was the revolts that occurred. One of these revolts was the one in the Philippines against the Americans. Philippine patriots rose to revolt but were quickly silence by the strong American forces.

Asia: Academic Paragraph Western European interests affected Asia by losing their control of their own continent. One way Asia was affected by European interests was the political control they lost land. In the 1800s, the Dutch and the French started taking control over Indochina and the East Indies. Japan, China, and India were experiencing the same problems. The second way Asia was impacted by European interest was the land that they were losing by industrialized powers. For instance, Russia was controlling the south in the Caucasus and in Central Asia and the United States were controlling the Philippines. The last way Asia was impacted by European powers was the revolts that happened. One of them was the Philippine patriots revolting against the Americans for taking away their independence.
