 Baseball player  Played for 10 years  Gripping the bat at hitting practice slowly developed a pain from the inside of his wrist to the back of his thumb (where the thumb meets the wrist)

 De Quervain Tenosynovitis is a painful inflammation of tendons in the thumb that extend to the wrist (tenosynovitis).  The swollen tendons and their coverings rub against the narrow tunnel through which they pass. This results in a pain at the base of the thumb and extending into the lower arm.

 Splint or taping of the wrist and thumb  Anti-inflammatory, ibuprofen  Resting  Icy-hot or bengay

S/SWhat to AvoidTreatment Gradual pain over the radial styloid when using thumb on affected hand Making a fistPhysical therapy Difficulty gripping and pinching Turning your wristOccupational therapy In sever cases pain when using hand Gripping/pinching anything May use cryotherapy (cold packs and ice massage) to reduce inflammation and edema Topical corticosteroids driven into the subcutaneous tissues using ultrasound
