Wednesday, January 21 st Entry Task 1.How do you feel you did last semester? 2.Do you feel like you demonstrated student growth? (example: did better in the end and learned more than in the beginning, changed study habits, etc.) 3.What can you do to make sure this semester is as successful, if not more? List 3 things and explain. Schedule: Finish Norms & Important stuff First Semester Analysis Homework: Read/RSG 8.2 Objective: I can understand rules and expectations for second semester science I can analyze how well I did last semester and make goals for this semester Please Have on Desk: Parent Signature

Thursday, January 22 nd Entry Task Write down the definition and match it with the correct term. Definitions: 1.Motion that transfers heat within a material 2.The layer formed by Earth’s crust and the very top of the mantle 3.Underwater mountain ranges found where the ocean floor is spreading. Terms: mid-ocean ridges, lithosphere, plate tectonics, convection current Schedule: Volcano notes Objective: I can understand the characteristics of the different types of volcanoes Homework 8.2 Review Questions- page 269# Vocabulary Please have on desk: 8.2 RSG

Volcano Notes A volcano is a place (usually a mountain) where magma reaches the earth’s surface.

Magma Chamber Lava- Vent- Crater- The opening in the volcano Erupted magma Pit at the top of the volcano

Four things that can come out of a volcano

1. Lava: molten rock that flows or oozes onto the earth’s surface

2. Lahars: flows of mud, rock and water

3. Pyroclastic flows: hot avalanches of ash and gas

4. Tephra: gases and fragments of rock and lava sent high into the sky

Three Types of Volcanoes 1. A cinder cone volcano has steep sides and is made from explosive eruptions of small particles of rock that form a loose pile of volcanic rock fragments.

Three Types of Volcanoes An example of a cinder cone volcano is Paricutin in Mexico.

Three Types of Volcanoes 2. A shield volcano is built up of many slow thin layers of hardened lava.

Three Types of Volcanoes An example of a shield volcano is Mauna Loa Volcano in Hawaii. It is the worlds largest shield volcano.

Three Types of Volcanoes 3. A composite volcano is usually cone-shaped and is built up of layers of hardened lava and rock fragments.

Three Types of Volcanoes Mount St. Helens is a Typical composite volcano.

Three Classifications of Volcanoes: 1. Active Volcano: A volcano which has erupted recently or might erupt soon.

Three Classifications of Volcanoes: 2. Dormant volcano: A volcano that has been quiet for a long time, but still has signs it may erupt again.

Three Classifications of Volcanoes: 3. Extinct volcano: A volcano that has not erupted for thousands of years and cannot erupt again.

Friday, January 23 rd Entry Task Create 3 questions that you feel are good questions to go on a quiz about volcanoes. Answer them. Schedule: 8.2 Questions- go over 8.2 Quiz 8.3 Reading and Chart Homework: 8.3 RSG Objective: I can understand information about different types of volcanoes Please Have on Desk: 8.2 Vocabulary 8.2 Questions

As you read complete the chart Land (Geosphere) Air (Atmosphere) Water (Hydrosphere) Ways Volcanoes affect Each sphere. (Must have at least 6, may have more if needed)
