10 CSWG Status Status Identified geo-coding and metadata editors as short-term efforts; GPS receivers for longer term. Staffing Need new team lead and staff on team to renew energy around mission activities. Need at least 4-8 interested feds to successfully deliver workplan.

11 Preliminary analysis Metadata Editors – reviewed and updated available products; summary will be shared and posted to FGDC website Common geo-coding service – reviewed GeoCommons option for cloud-based approach; will work with HUD to look at scope and flexibility of service offering in April.

12 Long-term goal Collecting requirements for GPS receivers Complex requirements cross multiple business areas from civilian GPS devices, to scientific, to “.mil” specifications Evaluating options to determine productive acquisition or direction. 16 LMWG Status Status FY 2010 products include:  Supplemental Guidance in draft  ProposedProposed portfolio management process and draft organizational metrics  A-16 scope, theme definitions, draft list of national geospatial data assets, and validation approach will be reviewed today Staffing members attend meetings and review products; 3-4 actively in product development Need additional SMEs for targeted product development  Will require active participation for 1-2 month periods of time (e.g. BMPs) Will need SME participation to complete FY2010 BMP objectives

17 Establishing new themes Lifecycle WG efforts are putting forward a reduction in the number of themes from current Circular A-16 This supports the need for better integrated themes with associated datasets with sound quality management processes and consistency across data provider agencies. Agency attention is critical so that alignment is accepted and ensures consistency within the community for policy, architecture and lifecycle standards.

21 NIEM Evaluation Request Contact: Doug Nebert, FGDC, Read ahead: none NIEM – National Information Exchange Model Defines the “load” within a data packet that can be read by anyone who is using the NIEM In your FY11 Passback, a provision asked all agencies to evaluate the adoption and use of the NIEM Recognized that NIEM may not be the solution in all cases NIEM PMO in DHS is available to assist agencies with their evaluations and questions Series of upcoming training sessions A&T workgroup to address (on agenda today)

22 NIEM Evaluation Request Sent on behalf of Kshemendra Paul, Federal Chief Architect By 5/1/2010, all agencies shall evaluate the adoption and use of the National Information Exchange Model as the basis for developing reference information exchange package descriptions to support specification and implementation of reusable cross-boundary information exchanges. A cross-boundary information exchange is one that crosses a bureau or agency boundary, including information sharing with international, State, local, tribal, industry, or non-governmental organization partners. The evaluation should include an alternatives analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and gaps or issues, if any, in governance and cost sharing based on provided template. To provide guidance and tools to help you meet this requirement, the Office of Management and Budget has scheduled a NIEM Overview Briefing on Friday January 29, Evaluations are intended to be performed at the program/office level Request and responses go through the agency CIO’s office.

24 NGAC Update NGAC met on March in Washington, DC Newly-appointed NGAC members were in attendance Andrew Jackson, DOI, announced that Secretary Ken Salazar will serve as Chair of the FGDC. Mr. Jackson also briefed the Committee on Secretary Salazar’s priorities.
