Science Course Selection Advice for signing up for the correct science course

Class of 2014 Science Choices: Regular Biology OR Honors Biology which has more intense reading/writing skills. This is for students who want to challenge themselves or pursue science after high school.

Class of 2014 Completed Honors Biology  You can sign up for Honors Chemistry (Algebra II or concurrent)  AP Biology (concurrent Chemistry)  Honors Physics (Algebra II or concurrent)  Zoology (if Biology is completed and chemistry is concurrent)

Classes of 2012 and 2013  The following courses are available

Chemistry  For 4 year college bound students  This is a physical science course that explores matter, chemical bonding, chemical equations and stoichiometry. Regular Honors -completed Alg I or -completed Alg II Int I and II or concurrent Int I and II or concurrent

AP Chemistry  This is a second full year chemistry course that is offered at the college level.  Additional Lab time is required.  Recommendations: Successful completion of Chemistry or Honors Chemistry and Algebra II

Physics  For 4 year college bound students  This is a physical science course that studies motion, light, sound, heat and energy. Regular Honors -Completion of Alg I -Completion or and Geometry concurrent of Alg II and Geometry concurrent of Alg II

AP Physics  This is a second full year course of physics that is comparable to a general physics course in college.  Additional lab time is required.  Recommendations: Successful completion of Honors Physics and Algebra II.

Ecology Ecology  This is a life science course designed to study the environment and human impacts. **Honors Ecology recommends successful completion of Alg I or Integrated I and II

AP Environmental  Is a second year life science course taught at the college level.  Additional lab time is required.  Recommendation: Successful completion of a life science course.

Geology  This is a physical science course designed to study the Earth and processes taking place on Earth. **Honors Geology students need to have successfully completed Alg I.

Anatomy and Physiology (Honors credit)  This is a college level life science course that studies the body systems and their functions. Students will dissect a cat to help aid their understanding.  Heavy emphasis on lab practicals and techniques.  Designed to prepare students for health and medical related fields.  Recommendations: Successful completion of Biology & passage of science OGT.

Zoology  This is a life science course that introduces students to invertebrate and vertebrate organisms. (uses a college textbook)  Emphasis is placed on lab practicals and field study activities.  Recommendations: Successful completion of Physical Science and Biology.  Recommended for College bound students

Materials Science  This is a physical science course that is hands on and includes inquiry based projects.  Emphasis is placed on engineering, chemistry, and physics.  Recommendation: chemistry or strong performance in physical science I and II.

AP Biology  This is a second full year of Biology and designed to reflect a college level Biology course.  Additional Lab time is required.  Recommendations: Successful completion of Biology or Honors Biology and Chemistry (or concurrent enrollment).

IB Science (all 2 year courses)  IB High level Physics  IB Standard level Chemistry  IB Biology  (Passage of OGT Math, Science & Reading, a B average in previous 2 sciences. Alg II recommended for physics.)

STEM Courses  Rigorous Early College options in Science, Math and Technology  Ensure that learning is relevant to the real world and science related jobs.  Enrollment in PSEO at OSU, Otterbein or Columbus State OSU, Otterbein or Columbus State
