This will appear as a Period 9 class on the spring schedule and will appear on the transcript at the end of the semester  If your student took Biology in the 8 th grade for high school credit, health will have to be taken as a separate course. Summer school is the best option for this.

Passing STAAR exams in English 1 & 2, Biology, Algebra 1, and US History All Lamar students are scheduled into the Distinguished Level of Achievement Program  More competitive for college admission  Can be admitted to public 4 year colleges in Texas under the top 10% law

Students move into the next course in sequence and if needed, deficiencies are made up online at home, in summer school or in Grad Lab when available College recruited athletes should make up NCAA core courses by correspondence with the University of Texas

The Distinguished Level of Achievement Program requires 26 credits and includes an endorsement An endorsement is a related series of courses grouped by an interest or skill which provide in- depth knowledge of a subject area It is a pathway with a sequence of courses selected in 9 th grade

All students completing the Distinguished Achievement Program automatically complete the Multidisciplinary Endorsement because of additional math, science and elective credits

A NACAC survey of members (64% private, 36% public) said these were very important factors influencing admission decisions:  84% Grades in College Prep classes  54% Admission test scores (SAT, ACT, etc.)  42% Grades in other subjects  42% Other criteria specific to each institution  32% Class rank  18% Essay/writing sample

 Above all, they look for a strong record in difficult classes  An improving transcript is better than one in decline  Take more math, science & language classes  Improve communication skills  Get involved in outside activities

Texas A & M admission  Through Precalculus Engineering  As much Physics as possible UT Austin “Points Plus”  Bonus points for having courses over the minimum in 2 of 3 subject areas (math, science, language)

How do you spend your time?  A job is a viable & important life experience  Do community service before senior year  Show leadership in activities when possible  Cultivate an interest

Selective colleges will ask…  What will they add to our school community?  What will they contribute to campus life?  Will they academically stimulate our students & professors?  Are they passionate about something?  Are they involved in community service?

By seeing 4 years of course selections, admissions counselors can measure your passion for learning… When possible, take math, language and science every year…and more if you can.
